PETER MARBER is a professional money manager, teacher, and writer based in New York. Since 1987, Marber has professionally invested billions of dollars in the emerging markets for many of the world’s largest corporations and financial groups.

He began his career at UBS (formerly Swiss Bank Corporation), and he was president of the emerging markets subsidiaries at Dresdner Kleinwort (formerly Wasserstein Perella).

Marber serves as global head of emerging markets fixed income and currencies at HSBC Global Asset Management. He was previously founding partner and Chief Strategist for The Atlantic Funds, LLC which was acquired by HSBC in 2005.

Marber has been a faculty member at Columbia University since 1993, teaching at the Business School and School of International and Public Affairs, and has taught at Johns Hopkins and Universidad Francisco Marroquin. He has authored more than 100 columns and articles on international finance, privatization, and globalization. Marber is routinely quoted in the media including CNN, CNBC, the Financial Times, Reuters, Bloomberg, and the Wall Street Journal, and has lectured at dozens of international conferences.

He serves or and has served on many advisory boards and councils for institutions including the New America Foundation and World Policy Institute. His first book, From Third World to World Class: The Future of Emerging Markets in the Global Economy, was named a top ten business book in 1998 by the Knight Ridder newspapers and was called future reference reading for “The 24/7 Global Marketplace” by Wired magazine in 2001. His second book, Money Changes Everything: How Global Prosperity is Reshaping Our Needs, Values, and Lifestyles, was published by Financial Time Prentice Hall in 2003. David Brooks of the New York Times has noted, “Money Changes Everything is an outstanding primer on the awesome social effects of globalization.”  His latest book on emerging markets’ impact on the US and G7, titled Seeing the Elephant: Understanding Globalization from Trunk to Tail, was published in February 2009 by John Wiley & Sons.

A native New Yorker, Mr. Marber studied at Université Paris Sorbonne – Paris IV, Johns Hopkins, and Columbia.

He is married with two children and lives in Manhattan.
